Our team at HQ Vape & Smoke is proud to offer CBD products of the highest quality available. We carefully consider the entire marketplace before adding new products to our inventory, which is especially essential for people who want to buy products that have been tested for purity and quality. CBD has recently become a hot topic, both in the media and within the health and wellness community. Since there are so many different opinions out there, we always recommend that our customers familiarize themselves with these products and make their own assessments about the benefits of CBD.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is one of many organic compounds called cannabinoids. Unlike the other popular cannabinoid you may have heard of, THC, CBD does not produce psychoactive effects. That is, cannabidiol products aren’t associated with feelings of intoxication or being “high.” CBD occurs naturally in cannabis plants. This makes it important to understand the two main categories of cannabis plants as defined by the United States, plus the legal status of different cannabis types.

Plants with less than 0.3% THC are considered hemp, while plants with higher THC levels are considered to be marijuana. Hemp is legal throughout the United States, while marijuana is still illegal on a federal level. We don’t sell marijuana or marijuana products here at Headquarters. All of our CBD products are made with legal hemp.

Types of CBD Products

There are many different ways to enjoy CBD. Some customers prefer tinctures, capsules, edibles, concentrates, or topicals. CBD Cigarettes or ‘hempettes’ are also available in the form of CBD flower smokes, sold in a pack of 20. Here at HQ Vape & Smoke, CBD vape products are some of our favorites. One of the great things about CBD vape juice is that you can enjoy it how you do with your other favorite types of vape juice. We’ve even heard of people mixing CBD vape juice with their normal vape juice to create custom blends.

Types of CBD

When you start shopping for CBD, you’re likely to see it categorized as CBD isolate, broad-spectrum CBD, or full-spectrum CBD. Each of these CBD types is valuable in its own way, so it’s important to decide which is most appealing to you.

CBD Isolate

This is just CBD by itself. It’s the most popular option for some people who only want to add CBD to their vape juice without adding other cannabinoids from hemp. The extraction process used to create this type of product makes it significantly different from many other CBD products on the market. As the name implies, cannabidiol is isolated from the rest of the hemp plant’s organic compounds to create CBD isolate.

Flavorful terpenes, natural waxes, and other cannabinoids are all removed via a process called winterization. This separates CBD from everything else in the hemp plant material. If you’re only interested in the purest, most concentrated form of cannabidiol available, you might find that CBD isolate is the most appealing to you.

Broad-Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD contains more cannabinoids than just CBD. It’s not quite as refined as CBD isolate, but it’s slightly more refined than full-spectrum CBD. It’s been run through some additional processes, possibly including slight winterization, to remove traces of other cannabinoids and terpenes. While you do still receive some other natural compounds from the hemp plant, this oil will mostly contain CBD.

Full-Spectrum CBD

Full-Spectrum CBD includes multiple cannabinoids beyond just cannabidiol. It’s also known as whole plant CBD because the entire plant is used. Though broad-spectrum CBD is lightly processed to remove trace amounts of THC, this really shouldn’t be necessary since the oil is derived from legal hemp that does not contain significant amounts of THC, if any.

Some people believe that taking the full-plant approach to hemp is the best. Extracting all of the cannabinoids from the plant in this way keeps all of the fatty acids, terpenes, and other cannabinoids in play. While some people like to let every component of the plant work together in concert, this can be risky if you don’t trust the vendor.

Since full-spectrum CBD isn’t refined to remove THC, it’s important to purchase it from a reputable source. Companies that make full-spectrum CBD without testing it may accidentally be including THC in their products. This can result in feelings of intoxication, failed drug tests, or even legal problems. As a general rule, we recommend staying away from any CBD products that don’t come from brands and vendors you can trust.

Other Varieties of Cannabinoid to Know About

There’s also lesser known about varieties of cannabinoids to know about — CBDA, CBN, CBG, CBC, and CBDV and here’s a brief rundown:

  • CBDA: Cannabidiolic acid, generally abbreviated to CBDA, is a cannabinoid produced by the stems, leaves, and flowers of some cannabis plants. Through a process called decarboxylation, the acid is removed from CBDA, transforming it into CBD. This process is most often performed by heating or smoking cannabis varieties that are high in CBDA. For this reason, CBDA is sometimes considered the “precursor” to CBD. CBDA is only found in raw hemp plants that haven’t been exposed to excessive heat or sunlight.
  • CBN: CBN is the abbreviation for cannabinol, another compound within the cannabinoid family. In fact, CBN was the first cannabinoid isolated by scientists. CBN is produced when THC is heated or exposed to oxygen; it also occurs naturally as the cannabis plant ages. Even though CBN is derived from THC, it doesn’t share the psychoactive properties of THC (meaning you won’t get high from CBN alone).
  • CBG: Like the other compounds in this overview, CBG (short for cannabigerol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid with a variety of promising medical applications. CBG is actually the precursor to its more famous cousins, CBD and THC. Like CBDA, exposure to light or heat breaks down CBG in the cannabis plant into these better-known compounds. Most strains of cannabis contain relatively little CBG, often less than 1%.
  • CBC: Discovered more than five decades ago, cannabichromene (CBC) is considered one of the most promising cannabinoids in recent medical research. Like CBD and THC, CBC is derived from CBDA when the acid is broken down by exposure to heat or ultraviolet light. Non-intoxicating like other CBD compounds, CBC is less well researched than some cannabis derivatives. However, scientists have discovered a variety of potential applications for this cannabinoid.

CBDV: aka cannabidivarin, better known as CBDV. CBDV is extremely similar to CBD on a molecular level, but recent research has shown its applications are exceptionally unique and valuable for people with neurological disorders. Preliminary studies on mice show that CBDV has enormous untapped potential in the treatment of epilepsy and similar neurological conditions.
